NEW DELHI: India is likely to see one crore Electric Vehicle (EV) sales annually and the segment is expected to generate about five crore jobs by 2030, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, said while addressing the 19th EV EXPO 2023, New Delhi.
Gadkari mentioned that the Vahan database indicates that 34.54 lakh EVs are already registered in India. He emphasized that India has the potential to become the world’s leading EV maker, and the government is committed to developing India into a self-reliant country in clean energy production and mass application.
Furthermore, the transport minister stated that the government has authorized the retrofitting of existing polluting vehicles into hybrid and fully electric vehicles. He added that the regulations have been finalized and technology demonstrations have been successfully conducted.
