COIMBATORE: The citizens of Coimbatore will soon be able to use the first mutli-level car parking facility in the city. The Coimbatore Corporation has started to build the first MLCP at D B Road, R S Puram.
A company named Annai Infra Developers Ltd., have won the tender and started the work on the project a month ago. The parking facility is being built at the cost of Rs 40.78 crore and it would be a ground-plus-four-storey structure to facilitate maximum 370 cars.
The engineer of the project said, the car parking would be from the first to fourth floor and the civic body would use the ground floor to house the control system, security personnel, and equipment. After housing all those, if there was space, the Corporation would look at accommodating more cars.
The parking system is going to be fully automated where customer’s car would be taken from and delivered to them using shuttle and folly system, and the said time to do the job would be under a minute.
The construction company have been given the responsibility of maintaining the whole system and will collect the parking fees fixed by the Corporation for a duration of six years, after that new tenders for the job will be floated.
Once the Corporation completes the project, it would then look at building MLCPs on Cross Cut Road and Big Bazaar Street, for which the preparation of detailed project report is under way, the engineers added.
