NEW DELHI: The Central Government has approved four lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAYU). As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, this approval takes the total number of houses under the scheme to more than 72.5 lakh. The approval was given in 42nd meeting of Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee.
As per the official statistics, Andhra Pradesh tops the list by getting 1.05 lakh houses sanctioned followed by the West Bengal which gets a sanction of 1.02 lakh houses, Uttar Pradesh received 91,689 houses, Tamil Nadu 68,110 houses, Madhya Pradesh 35,377 houses, Kerala 25,059 houses, Maharashtra 17,817 houses, Odisha 12,290 houses, Bihar 10269 houses and Uttarakhand received 9,208 houses.
Total 940 projects worth Rs 22, 492 crore with assistance from the centre of Rs 7,180 crore approved in the meeting under the chairmanship of Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary of the Minstry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
It is to be mentioned that the central government is aimed to construct one crore houses in the urban areas of the country by 2022.
