Foundation stone of 9 highway projects laid by PM Modi in Bihar

NEW DELHI: As per a release by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, September 21, laid the foundation stone of nine highway projects in Bihar through video conferencing. Optical fiber internet services were also inaugurated by him through which all the villages in the state will be linked. The road length of these highway projects would be about 350 kilometers and the total cost would be Rs 14,258 crore.

A number of development projects, including those related to railways, infrastructure, bridges, drinking water and sanitation, have also been recently inaugurated by the Prime Minister in Bihar.

The state’s development will be enhanced with these proposed highways as they will improve connectivity, convenience and economic growth in and around it, the PMO said. These projects will also improve the movement of people and goods significantly, especially with the neighboring states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

The PMO, while describing the optical fibre internet services programme, called it as a digital revolution which will cover all 45,945 villages of Bihar and reach the state’s remotest corner. Department of Telecommunications of the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and Common Service Centres (CSC) together will be working towards the accomplishment of the project.

There are 34,821 centres of CSC along the length and breadth of Bihar, the PMO said and added that it will use manpower not only to execute the project but also run it professionally to provide common citizens with optical fibre internet services in all villages.

One Wi-Fi and five free of cost connections to government institutions like primary schools and anganwadi centres, will be also be provided. The PMO said that all the citizens of Bihar will be able to easily access digital services like e-education, e-agriculture, tele-medicine, tele-law and other social security scheme at the click of the button.
