MADURAI: A ceremony was organised by the Madurai Municipal Corporation and foundation stone was laid for construction of a health and wellness centre on August 3, at Sammattipuram in the city. The construction of the centre is expected to be completed in three months. It will be like a clinic with a medical officer and nurse to provide general health services to the public.
The development of such wellness centre is a project being executed under the National Urban Livelihood Mission. Rs 25 lakh has been set aside by the civic body for the construction of the centre at Sammattipuram, which is expected to benefit 25,000-30,000 people living in the region.
The Madurai Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 16.16 crore to construct health and wellness centres in 62 of the 100 wards in the limits of the civic body. These centres are at various stages of development.
