KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur-Sangli floods have disturbed lives of lakhs of people living in the districts. After an aerial survey of the two districts, Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stated that around 2 lakh people are living in affected areas without electricity and clean water supply.

Schemes introduced by the state and central government to provide clean water, electricity and high yielding crops in the district to improve agriculture have become completely dysfunctional. Thousands have been shifted to safer places as their houses have been damaged and destroyed by the floods and restoring clean water and electricity was a priority, added the CM.

The CM was further quoted saying, “During the aerial survey, I found most of the Sangli city surrounded by water. My helicopter was not given permission to land at Sangli and Karad. Since Kolhapur has an airport, I could land here and meet affected people.”

Fadnavis also stated that he had sought five more rescue teams from the Defence Ministry apart from the eleven rescue teams that are already deployed in Sangli district.
