Fifth phase of J&K panchayat polls records 71.1% voter turnout

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The fifth phase of nine-phased Jammu & Kashmir Panchayat elections 2018 recorded 71.1 per cent voter turnout. The fifth phase was held on November 29, 2018 from 8 am to 2 pm.

The Kashmir division recorded 33.7 per cent voting and the Jammu division recorded 85.2 per cent polling.

Reasi district of Jammu division witnessed the highest polling percentage of 89.1 per cent. Whereas, In Kashmir division, Kupwara district recorded 42.5 per cent voter turnout and Pulwama district recorded the least polling percentage of 0.5 per cent.

118 Sarpanch and 1046 Panch were elected unopposed. Voting took place for 309 sarpanch seats and 1534 panch seats, with 4763 candidates in fray.

2512 polling stations were set up including 769 in Kashmir Division and 1743 in Jammu Division.

The Basic Minimum Facilities (BMF) were ensured in all the polling stations for the voters. Security arrangements were made including the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

The next phase of election will take place on December 1, 2018 from 8 am to 2 pm.
