SEOUL: The Metropolitan Government of Seoul in partnership with the Green Seoul Citizens Committee hosted a fashion show on July 9 to underscore the importance of climate variability at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in central Seoul. The show with slogan ‘Dealing with climate change with citizens’ was held behind closed doors without an audience. Lee Dong-ryul, a senior official overseeing the city’s environmental policy commented that this event was organised in view of the government’s plans to attain zero net emissions of carbon by 2050.
The fashion show had models strutting down the ramp sporting bags made from cactus, shorts and pants made out of waste plastic water bottles, eco-friendly outfits made from natural materials and regenerated fibers. In a bid to encourage less energy usage by wearing clothes that keeps one feeling chill during the scorching summer weather, the city administration of Seoul and Seoul Citizen Committee for Green Seoul have been pairing up and launching capmpaigns under the theme of ‘cool-down dressing’ since 2012.
