FARIDABAD, Haryana: Faridabad Municipal Corporation plans to hire a private agency to prepare and serve over seven lakh tax assessment notices in the city. The move is aimed at streamlining the tax assessment process to ensure efficient tax collection as the corporation is targeting ₹250 crore in the current financial year.
Official sources said that the corporation is outsourcing the work due to a rise in the number of tax-paying units in the city and a lack of staff. A tender has been issued to invite private entities for the work. Once the bidder is selected, tax assessment notices will be served shortly.
He adds that many property owners complained that they did not receive the assessment notice and reminders on time. Though the number of tax-paying units in the city increased in the past two decades, still the house tax collection remained at ₹60 crore only in the last financial year. Also, pending dues of the local body have soared up to ₹175 crore.
A senior MCD official said, “Besides serving notices, the process will ensure customer verification and the exact details of property owners to avoid discrepancies in the online tax unit records.” Also, there are around 6,000 complaints regarding unit IDs and their updates.
