CHENNAI: The Integrated Vaccine Park (IVP) in Chengalpet, which is a 100-acre facility and 60 kilometre from Chennai, may begin the production of COVID vaccines. Bharat Biotech, maker of Covaxin, is expected to soon establish an assembly line at this facility. MD Suchitra, Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech; and Sai Prasad, Senior Official, are likely to visit the facility today.
Experts said that if the bulk of vaccine is transported to the centres, the unit can produce and package the vaccines into 5 millilitre vials. The Government of Tamil Nadu said that they are happy with the development as the plant will be ready for operation by the time states will be in need of more vaccines. Chief Minister Stalin wrote to the Government of India that the facility be leased or be handed over to the state government so that it can partner to begin the production of vaccine.
