LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: The exercise to map 783 urban local bodies spread across 75 districts and a geospatial database of 14,455 wards has been completed by the Department of Census Works in collaboration with the Directorate of Local Bodies. This data will be crucial for framing urban development plans and also for land administration, banking, financial and economic activities, water, disaster management, supply services etc.
The Directorate of Census Operations decided to prepare the geospatial map of the ward boundaries in the state. The move is in line with the directives of the Registrar General of India issued to create a national geospatial database of the urban landscape of the state. An action plan was formulated after contacting the Directorate of Local Government.
Once the technical evaluation of the Uttar Pradesh Government and confirmation of the boundaries by the concerned municipal body concludes, the map will be finalised and handed over to various stakeholders.
Sheetal Verma, Director, Census Works Directorate, handed over the map and Geo Special Database to Nitin Bansal, Director, Local Bodies, in Uttar Pradesh.
