NEW DELHI: Experts have been making a constant demand for establishing a separate body for tackling climate change. States have already proposed an efficient ‘Environmental Council’ for a smoother implementation of India’s climate action at all levels. Besides the already existing apex committee, this has 13 key ministries working towards achieving India’s climate goal under the Paris Agreement. State representatives proposed the idea of having a separate body for a more emphasised action. The reason behind such decentralisation is that the implementation aspects of climate action often rest with state governments and therefore, an independent body that would be solely dedicated towards this cause should be made. In addition to this, diversity between states is quite vast and so are their respective needs and capacities; it is the need of the hour to have such separate entities functioning.
