ERODE, Tamil Nadu: The draft document of the Erode master plan has been opened to the public, seeking their suggestions and recommendations for the draft plan. The draft master plan proposes that 731 sq km of area should be brought under the Erode Local Planning Area (ELPA).
Earlier, collector Raja Gopal Sunkara held a stakeholder meeting with government officials and elected representatives of the urban local bodies and the Collectorate. V Sivakrishnamurthy, Corporation Commissioner, S Santhakumar, District Revenue Officer and Rani, Assistant Director of District Town and Country Planning Office, also attended the meeting. It was discussed that only after careful consideration of present and future developmental requirements, the Urban and Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation (URDPFI) was formulated and published.
The existing LPA was prepared in 1991, spanning over 80.07 sq km of area it covers the area of Erode Municipal Corporation, five town panchayats, and five village panchayats. The newly proposed planning area consists of 731 sq km of area, including 109 sq km area of Erode Municipal Corporation, 190.58 sq km of area of 11 town panchayats, and 430.90 sq km area of 79 revenue villages.
