Electric bus service to connect Jammu

JAMMU: An all new electric bus service connecting the Jammu Railway Station to Katra was introduced by the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation on May 27, 2019. Around 40 new electric buses were commissioned by the state transport corporation to facilitate the bustling tourism to the city of Katra, where the Vaishnodevi shrine is located. The planned route of the bus journey will take an estimated 2 hours with a single stoppage mid-way.  

The buses are equipped with several features like CCTV cameras, GPS to monitor the movement of the buses, panic button on every seat and emergency doors, to enhance the passengers’ safety levels. The bus service was inaugurated by K Skandan, advisor to the Governor of J & K. Amit Sharma, special secretary to the transport department said, “For now we have launched 20 buses each for Jammu and Srinagar on an experimental basis.”
