NEW DELHI: The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Wednesday, November 17, began using drones for spraying larvicide in those places which are inaccessible to the municipal workers. The exercise was conducted on the banks of Yamuna River near Yamuna Bank Metro station.

Mayor of EDMC Shyam Sunder said that a 12-litre container was attached to the drone and larvicide was sprayed at an area of 3 kilometres. Beer Singh Panwar, Chairman, Standing Committee, said that EDMC hired just one drone for the initial exercise, however, more drones will be used for the anti-dengue programme in the coming days.

According to a senior official, the drone will be used to spray larvicide and anti-mosquito drugs on the rooftops and those vulnerable areas which act as the breading spots and those areas where the municipal officials are unable to reach. EDMC has also used drones last year during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to spray sodium hypochlorite solution in the areas where municipal workers were unable to reach.
