NEW DELHI: The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is all set to launch a pilot project for pedestrianisation in Krishna Nagar market from October 7 to 11, 2019. The trial run of the project will be done between 11 am and 9 pm.

As per the plan, the 1.25 km stretch at Lal Quarter market-from Chachi Building to Gondli Chowk will be developed as pedestrian walkway. Along with this, a small stretch of Mandir Marg will be made a non-motorised zone.

Dilraj Kaur, Commissioner, EDMC said, “EDMC had already coordinated with local RWAs and the shopkeeper’s association to cooperate while formulating this project.” The objective of this project is to build the first pedestrian market street, with a parking management plan in place for specific area. “The project envisages decongestion and harnessing high footfall at Krishna Nagar market,” Kaur added.

According to an EDMC official, after this plan is put to use they will be able to decongest Lal Quarter market and will be able to provide parking space for vehicle owners. Aman Rajput, Deputy Commissioner, EDMC said, “Stickers will be issued with the help of RWAs and the market association to distinguish their vehicles from the visitors’ cars, who will only be allowed to park in paid open or multilevel parking lots.”
