NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to have a triple interchange facility at the New Delhi Metro station to accommodate the 12.37 km-long extension of the Green Line metro from Inderlok to Indraprastha, informed the officials.
Once the triple interchange facility becomes operational, commuters can change between the Yellow, Orange, and Green Line of the Delhi Metro. This will be especially beneficial for the commuters from Bahadurgarh and areas in west Delhi as they can directly come to the New Delhi Railway Station via the New Delhi Metro station. This move is expected to reduce the congestion as more and more people coming towards the railway station will prefer the metro over road transport.
As of now, there is only one station, Kashmiri Gate, having a triple interchange facility. At the Kashmiri gate station, the Yellow, Red, and Violet lines of the Delhi metro meet. Once construction under phase 4 is completed, Lajpat Nagar, Azadpur, and New Delhi too will have triple interchange facility.
Expansion of the Delhi Metro under phase 4 consists of 86 kilometres of new lines. The official statement said that 50 per cent of the civic work on three sections— Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg, Majlis Park – Maujpur, and Aerocity – Tughlakabad, has been completed. Apart from these three lines, two additional metro corridors, including Inderlok-Indraprastha and Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar, have also been approved.
