DUBAI: United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Microsoft, Accenture and Dubai Cares announced the launch of a global, digital learning platform for young people on Sunday, December 12. The ‘Passport to Learning Platform’ will operate under the Generation Unlimited partnership. It aims to address the global education crisis, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The portal will offer free, certified education and skills training to young people aged 15 to 24 all across the world, with content spanning digital, foundational, role-based and technical skills. People who use the platform will be able to use the certificates, they earn, to support future career and entrepreneurship options that the platform makes available. The Passport to Earning platform was unveiled on December 12, at the Rewired Summit, the world’s largest global education gathering. It was organised by Dubai Cares in collaboration with Expo 2020 Dubai and in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Government of United Arab Emirates. The website will include digitalised curriculum for online and offline use, as well as extra information vetted at the national level. Its goal is to keep students studying both inside and outside of the classroom by providing content that is not reliant on a constant internet connection. The goal is to improve government capacity in order to provide long-term skilling and job opportunities in the digital economy.
