LUDHIANA: Navjot Singh Sidhu, Local Government Minister, launched development projects in Ludhiana worth about Rs 565 crore on February 16, 2019.
These projects include construction of a modern slaughter house at cost of Rs 19.50 crore. Rs 31 crore will be spent for development of basic infrastructure in the city and Rs 3.10 crore will be spent for construction of smart toilets. A sports stadium in Daba will be constructed at cost of Rs 2.50 crore and others.
He said that the development projects worth Rs 50 crore had been completed by the civic body and more projects worth Rs 98 crore are in progress. Tenders worth Rs 84 crore for various development projects have been floated and work would be allotted by February 28, 2019, he added.
He said, “There is a need for 550 fire brigades in the state. We are going to bring a fire services project worth Rs 550 crore. Ludhiana will have a fire engine with advanced hydraulic ladder for fighting fires at high-rising buildings soon.”
The minister said, “E-parking facility has been introduced. The concerned contractor will receive the payment whenever a vehicle is parked at a specific place through e-ticketing. The problem of overcharging will be resolved with the introduction of this system. Under the AMRUT scheme, 230-km water supply line and 25 new tube-wells would be installed at a cost of Rs 40 crore. Also, a detailed project report (DPR) regarding construction of 16 overhead water reservoirs in the city at a cost of Rs 14 crore has been approved and the tenders will be floated soon.”
The minister announced rehabilitation work on three Sewage Treatment Plants (in Jamalpur, Bhattian and Balloke) at a cost of Rs 19 crore. Under the AMRUT scheme, the DPR regarding the construction of five new parks has been approved at a cost of Rs 2.47 crore, he said.
