NEW DELHI: In light of the pressing need for environmental care and sustainability, designing firm Architecture Discipline’s new project Mohalla clinics that are being built by using upcycled shipping containers is being implemented with support from Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Limited.
Addressing the need of the hour to conserve and enhance the Capital’s resource base, two containers salvaged from the ones available in Delhi and Haryana are merged into one to form a single clinic. These clinics will include an examination room, inspection room, and waiting area. Besides this, it will also have a pharmacy and a washroom. This is an initiative that has been undertaken with the aim of moving from waste management to resource efficiency. In Delhi neighborhoods, which mostly comprise of residential clusters, infrastructural development such as the one being undertaken by the Delhi government can be very useful. These structures are termed pre-fab structures and they usually take lesser time than the time taken by conventional structures to be built.
Moreover, these clinics are capable of serving lakhs of people in clustered neighborhoods and they are as fully equipped as any other healthcare facility. Akshat Bhatt, Principal Architect, Architecture Discipline, said that the clinic design capitalizes on the structural strength of a discarded shipping container, reducing the need for costly modifications. “These will be used as primary healthcare units and can be deployed with much ease,” Bhatt added.
