NEW DELHI: Delhi’s air quality deteriorated on Thursday, October 22, with a rise in pollutants in the atmosphere. According to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 254 in ITO and 246 in Patparganj and both of them fall in “poor category”.

A Delhi resident said that vehicular pollution needs to be controlled and the public should be aware to rely more on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Electric Vehicles (EV). He added that people have changed their timings of morning walk according to the levels of pollution. Government is taking suitable steps but public awareness is also vital.

SAFAR, Air Quality Monitor of The Ministry of Earth Sciences, stated that the share of stubble burning in the concentration of PM 2.5 pollutants was 15 per cent on Wednesday, October 21. The data said that the farm fire count around Haryana, Punjab and nearby regions across the international border was 1,017 on Monday, October 19.

The Delhi government will deploy around 2,500 environment marshals across the capital to sensitise people about the anti-pollution campaign, “Red Light On, Gaadi Off”.
