NEW DELHI: The Delhi administration intends to collaborate with Denmark to address the city’s continuous water shortage and upgrade road infrastructure. Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal stated that a clear plan will be devised in this regard.
On Friday, CM Kejriwal met with H E Freddy Svane, Denmark’s Ambassador to India, to discuss air pollution, groundwater rejuvenation, and the building of world-class road infrastructure. As per a statement of CM Kejriwal, 500 kilometers of Delhi’s roads are being redeveloped as per European standards.
The Danish ambassador praised Delhi government’s efforts to mitigate air pollution, especially the e-auto project saying that he had a chance to drive an e-auto which he found enjoyable. The meeting was also attended by Manish Sisodia, Minister of Public Works Department, Government of NCT of Delhi and Anitha Kumari Sharma, Urban Development Counselor, Denmark Embassy.
CM Kejriwal stated that the Delhi government is focusing on groundwater recharge and can do a better job by collaborating with Denmark. He said Delhi has great potential for using rainfall for groundwater recharge, which might help make Delhi self-sufficient with regards to its water needs. The CM also requested a detailed presentation from the Danish Ambassador on groundwater recharging projects in Denmark, which the Delhi government may learn from.
