Delhi sets aside Rs 1300 crore for development of unauthorised colonies

NEW DELHI: The Government of Delhi has allocated Rs 1300 crore for development and construction works in unauthorised colonies of the city during the fiscal year of 2022-23. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, said that all such localities will have sewer lines by the end of 2022.

Sisodia, who is also the Minister of Finance, Delhi Government, presented the ‘Rozgar Budget’ of Delhi government in the Assembly on March 26. The budget set aside Rs 5766 crore for the housing and urban development sector, which amounts to 7.6 per cent of the total budget of Rs 75,800 crore. The allocation for the sector of housing and urban development saw an increase of 8 per cent from that of previous year.

During his address, Sisodia mentioned that installation of CCTV cameras, street lights, and construction of roads, sewers, parks, among others have been completed on priority basis in the unauthorised colonies of the city. He said that till date, construction work for basic infrastructure development in 1414 out of 1797 colonies has either been completed or is in progress.

Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, said that the government is working on transforming the state of unauthorised colonies in the city. The goal is to provide good quality roads, drainage connectivity, and water and sewer pipelines in all the unauthorised colonies by March 31, 2023. He said that this will not only help and support the residents, but also increase their standard of living.
