New Delhi: Delhi metro magenta line was opened last year in December for public within limited section between Botanical garden and Kalkaji Mandir. The remaining section of magenta line will cover the area of Vasant Vihar, Munirka, IIT, Greater Kailash, Chirag Dilli etc. in south Delhi closer to Noida and West Delhi. With the new section connecting Kalkaji Mandir to Janakpuri West, the domestic terminal of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport will now have Metro Connectivity. The new section will also reduce the travel time from Noida to Gurugram to 50 minutes. Commuters traveling from Gurgaon will now be able to change trains at Hauz Khas to reach south Delhi and Noida. Twenty-four trains will run on the corridor, with a frequency of five minutes and 15 seconds during peak hours. Services will start at 6 am from Monday to Saturday, while on Sundays, services will begin at 8 am. The total running time between Botanical Garden and Janakpuri West will be one hour, said chief spokesperson of Delhi Metro Anuj Dayal. “The line will cut the travel time by more than half-an-hour between Noida and Gurgaon, as the passengers coming from Gurgaon on Line 2 will be able to get down at Hauz Khas and take a direct train to Botanical Garden in Noida,” he said.

This will also be the first time that the Delhi Metro will cross the cantonment area, benefitting residents who have been deprived of proper Metro connectivity till now.
