NEW DELHI: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has directed to provide a paid three-hour break for the labourers working at the construction sites from 12 noon to 3 pm as the heatwave continues in the national capital with temperatures soaring to 50 degrees Celsius in some parts.

Three-hour break directive of the LG has already been implemented by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) since May 20. It will continue until the temperature falls below the 40 degrees Celsius mark. LG Saxena has also asked the DDA to provide drinking water and coconut water for the workers engaged in the construction activities to ensure they stay hydrated in this harsh weather.

He has also asked the PWD, DJB, I&FC, MCD, NDMC, Department of Power, and DUSIB to convene a meeting to decide upon directives for protecting their workers and supervisory staff.

Making available earthen pots with drinking water at the bus stands for the benefit of the passengers, sprinkling treated water from STPs on the roads, and turning on water sprinklers installed in the high-rise buildings to tackle the air pollution in the city also found mention in the directive of LG for the giving respite to the people.
