NEW DELHI: Satyendar Jain, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Flood Control, Government of NCT of Delhi, on Wednesday, December 1, said that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) would upgrade all the 20 biogas plants and sewage treatment plants (STPs) in the next 15 months. During a review meeting on wastewater treatment, the DJB fixed the tariffs of supplying the treated water to farmhouses and institutional facilities for irrigation purposes.
Jain also instructed the officials to upgrade the STPs within 15 months of time using state-of-the-art technology unlike the older technologies which took 4-5 years. He also added that with the new method of upgradation, the plants will be revived as per the latest standards without any additional civic work and minimal effect on the neighbourhood.
Jain directed the officials of the DJB to finish the upgradation work six months prior to the deadline set for ‘Clean Yamuna’. He also directed them to upgrade the biogas plants in order to treat the sludge generated from the STPs, septage, cow dung from dairies and municipal solid waste.
Currently, the DJB has a capacity to handle 400 tonnes per day and Jain directed the officials to make the complete capacity functional by end of the year. He also asked the officials to expedite the work of laying pipelines so as to carry the treated water to end users.
