NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has asked the Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary to appear virtually and explain to the court how they are planning to tackle the issue of waterlogging in the national capital. The court also asked whether the drainage master plan was ready to be rolled out.
During monsoon season, residential areas in Delhi experience waterlogging and sewage backflow due to a lack of stormwater drain segregation.
A bench consisting of acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora directed the officials, “It is common knowledge that drains are normally choked with silt and drains are not constructed by taking the proper depth level and height into consideration. Most of the drains are not integrated and broken at places”.
Delhi High Court has been hearing two suo moto petitions regarding the water logging problem, the issue of rainwater harvesting and easing the traffic situation in the monsoon season.
