NEW DELHI: The Government of NCT of Delhi will soon start registration of e-autos which can save equivalent to Rs 29,000 compared to the CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) alternative said Kailash Gahlot, Minister of Transport, Government of NCT of Delhi. The Delhi government is focussing on the sale of electric vehicles (EVs), including three-wheelers such as e-autos, e-rickshaws and e-cart under ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign.
Gahlot said that the Delhi government has promoted the sale of e-rickshaws for last few years by providing subsidy of Rs 30,000 on their purchase. He added that post EV policy, the subsidy has been extended to e-carts and e-autos as well along with a scrapping incentive of Rs 7,500. Switch Delhi campaign is the 8-week programme for mass awareness to sensitise people about the benefits of EVs. Three vehicular pollution is the major cause of air pollution in the capital and therefore, there are special incentives for those switching of this sector. Gahlot said that two and three-wheelers contribute about two-third of the Delhi pollution as they run on the road for 12-16 hours a day. He added that e-autos will compliment e-rickshaws in providing last mile connectivity with zero pollution and they will get a waiver in all the road taxes and registration fees
