NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has made an appeal to the Centre and the Supreme Court of India for additional water supply from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh to address the severe shortage of water in the national capital.
The petition filed in the Supreme Court highlighted the increased need for water in Delhi, particularly due to the sweltering heat.
In a statement, Atishi, Delhi’s Water Minister, emphasised the critical situation, stating that Haryana has not been releasing the required amount of water, leading to a drastic dip in the water levels at the Wazirabad Barrage.
Atishi also highlighted the heavy dependency of Delhi on water from the Yamuna River for its day-to-day water demand.
