NEW DELHI: Delhi Government’s Urban Development Department has released a fund of Rs 500 crore to the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control to implement the basic development projects for the betterment of the unauthorized colonies in the National Capital Region. The fund had been transferred to the department under the head of “Development of Unauthorised Colonies” for the financial year 2019-2020.
“The chief minister directed the Urban Development department to ensure that there is no financial constraint for the development work of unauthorized colonies and funds must be released on time,” an official press release said. The state government has also said that the work of providing basic amenities to the said colonies like sewers, drains, roads and lanes will also be provided soon, adding that water distribution lines are being laid by the Delhi Jal Board.
Total budget allocation for development of the illegal colonies of Delhi in the current financial year is Rs 1,500 crore. Of this amount, Rs 500 crore had been previously released to the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control for the development works.
