NEW DELHI: The Government of Delhi has begun a week-long trial run of its Mohalla bus services to boost last-mile connectivity and accessibility in the capital city. Currently, these buses have been introduced on the Akshardham to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and Majlis Park to Pradhan Enclave routes in Burari.
The feedback the bus service will receive will decide whether the Mohalla bus project will be expanded or not. During the trial, feasibility, efficiency, and passenger response to this bus service will be considered.
Ashok Gehlot, Minister for Transport in Delhi, announced in a press conference that, as part of the Mohalla bus scheme, the state government plans to introduce 2080 buses, which will be introduced by 2025. Of these, 1040 buses will be operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation, while the remaining 1040 buses will come under the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).
The fare of these buses is the same as that of the AC buses. For women, the free ridership scheme using the pink pass will continue on these buses.
These nine-meter-long buses, painted green, have 23 seats, while their standing capacity is 13. Also, these buses run on six battery packs with a 196 KW capacity, which gives them a range of around 200 km. It takes 45 minutes to charge the bus.
