Delhi government to modernise 7 bus terminals

DELHI: Delhi government on December 1, gave its approval for the modernisation of seven bus terminals in Delhi to improve commuters experience of using public transport in the national capital.

“The Transport Department has floated tender for modernisation of Nehru Place Bus Terminal, and tender for another two terminals (Najafgarh, Azadpur) are expected to be floated within a week, ”reads a government statement. As per the statement, the tenders for others remaining are expected to be released by February.

“Bus terminals in Delhi have been neglected for decades and the convenience and comfort of bus commuters often ignored. Bus commuters should get the same experience that airport and metro commuters get at transit points, only then there will be pride and universal adoption of public buses in Delhi,” Kailash Gehlot, said Delhi Transport Minister.

The bus terminal that will be redeveloped at Nehru Place will have a public plaza along the Ring Road where people can wait and avail facilities. The terminal will also have an aerodynamic tree-likecanopy which will serve as a rain-shelter and the water collected will bedirected into harvesting tanks.
