NEW DELHI: By March 2023, the Government of NCT of Delhi has mandated cab aggregators such as Ola and Uber, as well as delivery service providers, to ensure that 50 per cent of all two-wheelers and 25 per cent of all four-wheelers in the fleet be Electric Vehicles (EVs). The tailpipe emissions from two and four-wheelers operated by cab aggregators and delivery partners will be significantly reduced as a result of this approach.

Kailash Gahlot, Minister of Transport and Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi gave the news on Twitter. This action will not only encourage service providers to use EVs, but it may also serve as an example for other states to emulate. “Another first for Delhi in EVs-aggregators and delivery service providers to ensure that 50 per cent of all new 2 wheelers and 25 per cent of all new 4 wheelers are electric by March 2023,” Gahlot wrote on Twitter.

Once the process of reviewing objections is completed at the conclusion of the 60-day period, notification will be sent. The Department of Transport will have meetings with all stakeholders as soon as possible to finalise the arrangements. The draught notification will be made available on the official website of the Delhi government. The authorities would even solicit residents’ thoughts for a period of 60 days. Finally, the document will be reviewed and implemented after any necessary adjustments have been made.

Cab aggregators and delivery service providers must add 10 per cent electric two-wheelers and 5 per cent electric vehicles in their fleets within three months of the regulation’s introduction, according to the legislation. Electric vehicles must account for 50 per cent of new two-wheelers and 25 per cent of new four-wheelers by March 2023. Gahlot had already encouraged CV owners to switch at least half of their fleets to electric vehicles. Owners of CVs were also encouraged to switch their whole fleet to electric by 2025.
