NEW DELHI: The forest department of Delhi government on June 25, proposed to develop 11 city forest in nation’s capital during current financial year 2019-20. Imran Hussain, Minister, Environment and Forest of Delhi, directed the officials to develop six of the city forests early in the monsoon season itself and submit a detailed project plan regarding the proposal. Principal chief conservator of forest, conservator of forest and deputy conservators of forests of various divisions attended the meeting.
The minister also directed to submit a detailed proposal for mega tree plantation drive which is planned to be held in last week of July. An official statement said, “The proposal should clearly indicate the agency-wise targets along with locations for carrying out tree plantation with active participation of people, especially children.”
The Delhi government had earlier said that it has set a target of planting more than 23 lakh trees and shrubs in the financial year 2019-20. The number is around 10 lakh lower than last year’s target.
