NEW DELHI: During a global workshop organised by Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi in collaboration with World Resources Institute (WRI) India on Tuesday, October 6, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said that the state government is fully committed to Delhi’s infrastructural improvement. Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, Government of Delhi’s think tank, organised the workshop to learn from global examples such as Singapore, New York, Seoul as it starts work on redesigning 540 Km of road network in the capital city.
London’s ambitious streetscape plan to construct temporary cycle lanes and low-traffic neighbourhoods, Seoul’s ambitious initiative to demolish flyovers or turn them into dedicated cycling corridors and Singapore’s 45-minute master plan were among the proposals considered by the experts at the workshop. Along with international cities, Bengaluru and Hyderabad also shared details on their street redesign projects.
Sisodia said that the state government is presently associated with the reforms in education and health sector, and it is now also committed to bring reform in infrastructural and road development. According to the experts who spoke at the workshop, a well-integrated public transportation system is critical to the success of road redesign projects.
