NEW DELHI: SkyTrax, an aviation rating firm, released its World Airports Awards 2022, list on Thursday, June 23. Asia and Europe dominate the list, which was created using global customer satisfaction surveys taken from 2021 to 2022. SkyTrax included over 550 airports from across the world for its survey, which covered things like terminal layout, WiFi availability, comfort, seating, restaurant options, retail vendors, and level of staff service.
Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, bagged the top rank in the list for second time. It was the top airport in the world in 2021, as well. Among the top 20 airports in the world, 10 are from Asia and 10 from Europe. Overall, only 12 airports from United States of America and three airports from Canada managed to earn a spot in the list of top 100.
Three airports of India were able to earn spot in the top 100 list this year. Indira Gandhi International Airport of Delhi ranked at the 37th spot – highest among other Indian airports mentioned in the list, Delhi’s IGI Airport became the best Indian airport. Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport ranked at 65th spot and Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport ranked at 61st spot in the top 100 list.
The official ceremony for World Airport Awards 2022, was held at Passenger Terminal Expo in Paris, France on June 16. It was for the fourth consecutive year at the SkyTrax World Airport Awards, that Delhi’s IGI airport was named as best in India and South Asia. Noticeably, the airport has also improved its ranking from 45th position in 2021 to 37th spot this year.
