Delhi and UP record highest single day spike in COVID-19 cases

NEW DELHI: Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, April 11, reported the biggest single day jump in COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020. India’s daily COVID-19 infections rose by a record number for the sixth time in the week.

According to the health bulletin released by the Government of NCT of Delhi, the union territory (UT) has recorded 10,774 COVID-19 cases taking the total tally to 7,25,197 cases. The death toll of the capital has rose to 11,283 adding 48 deaths in last 24 hours. The bulletin estimated that over 1.14 lakh tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate of the capital was recorded to be at 9.43 per cent. On Saturday, April 10, the positivity rate breached the mark of 10 per cent for the first time.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, April 11, recorded 15,353 new COVID-19 cases which took the state count to 6,92,015. The number of active cases stood at 71,241. Lucknow reported 4,444 COVID-19 cases which is highest among the other cities in the state. The second phase which has spread more rapidly has forced many states to impose the local restrictions.
