NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) launched a two-week long event between February 19 and March 6, to showcase the Yamuna Riverfront project. The event has been organised under the ‘Smart Cities Smart Urbanisation’ programme as part of the Government of India’s ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.

As part of its riverfront project, DDA has redeveloped a large section of 22 kilometers stretch along the river. The DDA has also developed cycle tracks in the floodplains where a cycle rally will be held on the last day of the event. Other programmes included in the event are nature walks, bird watching, and yoga among others. The DDA is also set to organise a cleanliness drive to clean the floodplains. Through the event, DDA aims to create awareness about the significance of restoration of the floodplains and sensitise people about the environment related issues.

On Saturday, February 19, the DDA held a sand art workshop on the banks of Yamuna River. The event was organised at one of the DDA’s Yamuna project sites at Kalindi Aviral. According to a senior DDA official, the workshop saw participation of over 250 people from all age groups. Students and other participants made sand art and sculptures on themes of independence, heritage, environment, art and science, under the guidance of artist Manas Kumar Sahoo.
