MUMBAI: Pointing towards a sudden surge in COVID-19 infections, Kishori Pednekar, Mayor of Mumbai, said that the third wave is already upon Mumbai and an announcement regarding this has already been made in Nagpur. She also urged the people to remain at their homes in lieu of the coming festive season.
Mumbai has recorded 28 per cent of the total cases logged in August, within 6 days of September. New additions in infections has taken the total count to 7,46,725 and the deaths to 15,998. The surge has come just ahead of the festive season in Maharashtra when there were concerns regarding the spike.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey urged people to cancel religious events and political rallies in view of a possible surge in COVID-19 infections. He added that public health is very important and the festivals can be celebrated in future. He added that the situation can worsen if COVID-19 cases increase.
