NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, released data on age and gender based distribution of the total COVID-19 cases in India. The data shared on December 29 reported that 70 per cent of the 1,48,153 people who died due to COVID-19 were men.
Rajesh Bhushan, Union Health Secretary, said that 60 per cent of total cases were amongst men; 52 per cent cases were in the 18-44 age group, but only 11 per cent deaths were reported from this segment. He added that 8 per cent cases have been reported below the age of 17 years, 13 per cent in the 18-25 years age group, 39 per cent in 26-44 years group, 26 per cent in 45-60 years group and 14 per cent cases above 60 years of age.
The data also revealed that about 45 per cent of all coronavirus deaths in the country have been reported in those below 60 years of age. The MoHFW said that 63 per cent of the people affected due to COVID-19 were men and 37 per cent were women.
