NEW DELHI: At the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, India on Sunday opened its pavilion, which was decorated around the Mission Life idea that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is supporting.
“This is just a showcase of what we are already doing. India does not just preach. It practices what it preaches and that is why PM Narendra Modi has been propagating it. A consumption-oriented lifestyle is not sustainable. And it does not help in achieving the climate change goals,” Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Environment Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, said after inaugurating India’s pavilion at COP27 at Egypt’s Sharm el-Shaikh.
One of the main pillars of India’s climate change response is Life, or Lifestyle for Environment, which promotes changing from a consumptive lifestyle to more environmentally friendly behaviour.
India would back a strategy that meets the needs of developing nations. The two topics that are receiving the most attention are adaptation and loss and damage, and advancement on these two issues will support one another.
In Sharm-El-Sheikh, there will be an Indian pavilion with the theme LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which Prime Minister Narendra Modi frequently promotes. At least 50 organisations will host side events at the pavilion, which will highlight India’s achievements and leadership in the fight against climate change.
