Gopal Rai labour minister said that the proposal would soon be presented to the cabinet for its approval.
According to the official reports of labour department, there are more than two lakh construction worker registered with Delhi building and other worker boards and these workers are employed at different construction site within Delhi, on some central and state projects including DMRC project, state housing projects.
Some of the construction workers are given housing nearby the construction site but majority of them are living in the outskirts and far off areas which cost them a huge blow on their pockets due to daily travelling.
“The free bus pass would help the workers save a substantial amount on commuting. All construction workers registered with the board would be eligible for it. The board has a huge corpus meant for welfare of the workers and DTC would be paid from that fund,” Rai said.
