NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday, December 1, questioned the municipal corporations due to their failure to contain dengue cases in the capital, which has doubled this year. The high court said that there is a complete paralysis in civic administration and authorities are not bothered about deaths due to the disease.
The high court also added that if the elections were fought on the real issues, we would have a different city but it does not work that way. It added that it is a sorry state of affairs in Delhi and the authorities are carelessly handling the situation. The bench also agreed with the counsel of South Delhi Municipal Corporation that people are not serious about the issue unless there is a deterrence. The SDMC counsel explained that several Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) are not cooperating with the authorities.
The court also questioned the East Delhi Municipal Corporation about the open drains in the area. It also directed the civic bodies to place on record, all the steps taken with regard to geo-tagging the employees and biometric attendance. Earlier also, the court expressed its distress due to spread of dengue in the city.
