COIMBATORE, Tamil Nadu: Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has written to Kalpana Anandakumar, Coimbatore Mayor to execute the government order regarding outsourcing solid waste management (SWM) to a private party. If the corporation does not implement this order, the directorate will step in to handle the situation.
The Directorate has directed that necessary steps should be undertaken to implement the order within seven days of the receipt of this letter.
M Prathap, the Commissioner, informed the reporter that the government order was received two months ago. However, it was tabled in the council meeting on June 30, but the matter was deferred as the councillors wanted more clarity on the nature of work and salary of sanitation workers. The letter sent by DMA read, “Since there is a delay in the immediate disposal of the garbage generated daily in the Coimbatore Corporation and the Council has not given approval to implement the solid waste management works, the Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner is requested through this letter to issue appropriate orders for the implementation of the Government Order in the interest of people and public health.”
