CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) will soon be launching shared cab service at Rs. 15 for the commuters of Chennai metro after its successful trial run of share auto and taxi services done earlier at 13 stations.
By the end of this year, CMRL will launch the share taxi service which can be availed across all the metro stations, where commuters can book their shared cab through the special mobile application and can pay through their metro rail smart card.
“We will operate 120 cabs in all our 32 stations across the two corridors. This will provide the commuters with last mile connectivity” said a CMRL official.
The new cab booking application will be integrated with already running CMRL application for the convenience of passengers. Commuters can pay the cab fare using their metro smart card after reaching their destination.
A few weeks back, metro rail floated tenders looking for a company that can operate this service. “We are in the pre-bid stage. By the end of December we will go live,” the official said.
In August, the CMRL launched shared taxi and auto services at 13 stations on a six month trial basis which received a good response.
