CUTTACK: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the Civil Supplies are yet to initiate a probe after reports of discrepancies in the beneficiary list have been submitted. Special ration and financial support were given to selected beneficiaries during the pandemic under National Food Security Act and the State Food Security Scheme.
According to state data, 72,178 beneficiaries have been registered by the civic body and provided subsidized food items under the aforementioned schemes. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna had also provided beneficiaries with ration for over eight months during the pandemic. The beneficiaries have also received financial assistance of Rs 1000 for each member of the family. For this special relief package, the civic body had received Rs 7.21 crore.
However, according to CMC’s records, over Rs 7.09 crore have been distributed while the rest Rs 12.29 lakh could not be distributed and were returned to the district civil supplies officer. In other words, over 1,229 beneficiaries did not show up for receiving the financial assistance even though they have been receiving the rationed food supply. Tushar Kant Deo, Chief District Civil Supplies Officer, Cuttack, said that he has asked the civil supplies officer to verify the list of beneficiaries and those who did not receive the financial support.
