Cities in UP to get 1,850 electric buses

LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: The Government of Uttar Pradesh is planning to induct 1,850 additional electric buses (EV) to its public transport fleet to expand its network, thereby reducing the traffic congestion on the roads in 19 cities.

The central government has been planning to allot 10,000 electric buses to the cities in Uttar Pradesh, with a population ranging between 3 lakh and 40 lakhs, in order to promote urban transport. In line with this move, the state government has also decided to allot 1,850 electric buses to ply the roads of 19 cities in Uttar Pradesh.

A feasibility survey will be conducted in all cities to make these buses operational as soon as possible. Feasibility survey will be conducted by a team of officers from four different departments, including the urban local body, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Lucknow Transport Services Ltd and Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). A review meeting, concerning the project, was held on Saturday, September 9, by Surendra Kumar Bagde, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). Directives have been issued to the concerned state officials to provide adequate space for electric buses and the supply of electricity for the charging stations.
