BENGALURU: The Indian drug maker Cipla Ltd., on Wednesday, July 8, said that it has priced its generic version of remdesivir, Cipremi, at Rs 4,000 per 100 mg vial, which is among the lowest globally.

Nikhil Chopra, Executive Vice-President and CEO, Cipla India, in an emailed statement said that the company was launching Cipremi commercially on Wednesday and aims to supply over 80,000 vials within the first month. He added the drug will only be available through government and hospital channels to ensure equitable distribution. As part of its efforts to help the society in this time of need, Cipla will also donate some of the medication.

Cipla’s Cipremi was authorised for restricted emergency use in the country by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) as part of the accelerated approval process, considering the urgent and unmet medical needs.
