RAIPUR: The Government of Chhattisgarh announced that they will be hiking the bus fare by 25 per cent. The decision was announced after private bus operators of the state had highlighted their concerns and had demanded a hike of 40 per cent in bus fare. They reasoned that due to spiked prices of diesel, the daily operations of the buses have become difficult and costlier.

Currently, the price of diesel in Chhattisgarh is nearing Rs 100 per litre. The Chhattisgarh transport department had last time hiked the bus fare in 2018 when the diesel price stood at Rs 69.20 per litre. Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh, was informed of the problems faced by the transport department in a meeting with the Patron of Chhattisgarh Yatayat Mahasangh, and other government officials.

On July 13, 2021, private bus operators had halted their operations in the state to put pressure on the authorities to meet their demands that included hiking the fare price. However, the strike was called off on the same day as government officials gave them assurance that their issues will be addressed.
