CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh administration decided to set up the first health education centre at Government Model High School, Sector 22C, Chandigarh, in association with the Rotary Club. The setting up of centre would amount to Rs 2.2 crore.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Union Territory Administration and Rotary Club for setting up centre, which would be one-of-its kind in the country.
The Union territory administration has decided to set up the centre at the government school in the first phase. Later the committee comprising representatives of the engineering and architecture departments and the district education officer would identify a site.
The centre will provide basic medical education, health checkup and training. It will be equipped with audio-visual means and will be set up within six months.
It will be managed by a team comprising administrative staff, doctors and experts under the society which will have the advisor to the administrator as the chairman, while the home, health finance and education secretaries of the Chandigarh administration as members along with members from other departments as well as the head of the PGI and two members of the Rotary Club.
Rajendra K Saboo, former world president of the Rotary International, said that the club would spend approximately Rs 2.2 crore for the centre, for which the expertise and know how would come from the US-based McMillen Health Centre, located at Fort Wayne, Indiana.
